Tandberg Storage today offer a full range of LTO products, starting with the 100 GB (native) TS200 LTO1 drive and going all the way up to the 800 GB (native) TS1600 LTO4 drive. These drives have been designed by one of the world's most experienced groups of tape drive engineers and are built around a common rugged, precisely engineered half height aluminum casting that ensures a stable, solid and reliable tape path platform.  Compared with the typical bent metal sheet design utilized by several competitors in the industry, the solid casting used by Tandberg Storage effectively protects against any potential warping forces when the drive is mounted into a cabinet. All drives offer high effective data rates and industry-leading technology in the read and write data channel. The drives also utilizes the Tandberg Storage patented “Smart Gripper” technology that ensures a very secure locking of the media leader pin during tape loading and unloading operations. Furthermore, the drives are also equipped with the Tandberg Storage patented “Dynamic Azimuth” feature which ensures an optimized, correct azimuth position of the recording/read head during all operations. This is especially critical for reliable long term performance in the high capacity range of the TS1600 and TS800 drives. Except for the TS200, all the drive models also feature an automatic variable transfer rate system to effectively match host transfer speeds.

With a strong focus on protecting the environment, Tandberg Storage has designed these leading-edge LTO drives with state-of-the-art electronics and firmware to effectively control power consumption both during operation and in stand-still. The result is a series of drives having the lowest power consumption in the industry by a wide margin. The very low power consumption combined with a unique “split cabinet” design has eliminated the need for any special built-in internal fans, reduced the need for high capacity external cabinet fans and at the same also improved protection against dust particles entering the drive around the sensitive tape area.

To better meet customers needs in various markets around the world, Tandberg Storage will offer both Ultra 160 SCSI  and SAS 1.1 interfaces with the new TS1600 LTO4 drive during 2008. The Ultra 160 SCSI version to be released in Q2 2008 is specifically aimed at customers already utilizing older LTO drives with a parallel SCSI interface and having a need to upgrade their system to the higher capacity offered by the LTO4 standard without being forced to replace other parts of the computer system at the same time. The SAS 1.1 version to be released in Q3 2008 is intended to support new state of the art servers that have SAS support embedded. The TS1600 is basically “plug-and-play” compatible with previous Tandberg Storage LTO drives as well as drives from other LTO drive manufacturers.

With the solid mechanical design, the advanced read and write electronics and firmware and the low power consumption, these Tandberg Storage drives are designed to give the user many years of reliable and dependable operation.
